Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park youth are developing their communication and research skills.
The First Baptist Church (FBC) Youth Ministry is hosting a debate for middle and high school students.
Slated for March 22, the Daniel Bragg Youth Great Debate is being held at 2:30 p.m. at FBC, 9258 Center Street in Manassas.
Professionals, teachers and community members advise participants, who learn how to shape and discuss perspectives.
“Being a part of the debate has taught me so much,” former participant Isaiah Mason said in a release. “The most important thing I have learned is confidence.”
Participants will be able to prepare for the free event by taking part in a workshop on Sunday. The workshop begins at 2:30 p.m. at FBC.
In 2016, Jonathan and Valerie Oliver created the debate and discussed the idea with FBC leaders.
The annual program honors Daniel Bragg, a World War II veteran who mentored and motivated students, according to a release.
Anyone interested in participating or learning additional details may email Program Coordinator Valerie Oliver at bheyouthdebate@gmail.com.
