A former supporter of a local non-profit is being remembered.
In September, the first annual R. Lee Ermey Memorial Golf Tournament took place at the Medal of Honor Golf Course at Marine Corps Base in Quantico.
It collected $43,000 for the Young Marines, according to a release from the Young Marines, a non-profit based out of Dumfries that serves youth who are 8 years old and older.
The event honored R. Lee Ermey, who was also the Young Marine’s celebrity spokesperson.
Before his passing in April 2018, Ermey spoke at the adult leaders conference and was a fundraiser at the annual golf tournament.
Among the golf tournament participants were seven Marine Corps Sergeants Majors — Current Sergeant Major Troy E. Black; 17th Sergeant Major and Young Marines National Foundation board member Michael Barrett USMC (Ret); 16th Sergeant Major Carlton Kent USMC (Ret); 15th Sergeant Major John Estrada USMC (Ret); 14th Sergeant Major Alford McMichael USMC (Ret); 13th Sergeant Major Lewis Lee USMC (Ret); 12th Sergeant Major and Young Marines board member Gene Overstreet USMC (Ret).
