Individuals and organizations gathered to lay wreaths on the graves of veterans at Quantico National Cemetery as part of Wreaths Across America.
The event is held each year at national cemeteries across the country.
“Representatives from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines, along with friends and families came and laid wreaths to honor the fallen, as well as Prisoners of War and those still Missing in Action,” stated a release.
Turnout for the event was tremendous, as lines formed at the entry, as participants entered Quantico Marine Corps Base.
According to a release, 9,000 wreaths were laid at the Quantico cemetery alone.
Earlier this year, there were concerns that there would not be sufficient funding to cover wreaths at some of the cemetries.
According to American Heritage Girls Troop 0428 Leader Carrie Kilareski, in the last week of November, there had only been enough donations to cover 43% of the cemetery with wreaths.
