Those who have chronic diseases can discover ways to manage their symptoms.
From November 4 to December 16, the Prince William Area Agency on Aging, the Independent Empowerment Center, and the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services are offering a “LIVE WELL with Chronic Conditions Workshop.”
Individuals affected by various conditions, including cancer, heart disease and depression, may participate in the workshop.
It’s taking place at the Woodbridge Senior Center, 13850 Church Hill Drive, between 9:30 a.m. and Noon on Mondays, according to a release from Prince William County.
Methods for staying active is one topic that will be covered, according to Area Agency on Aging Program Coordinator Jodie Houser.
“Staying active helps with your social wellbeing,” Houser said in a release. “If you’re not taking care of yourself and you’re staying inside, that can lead to social isolation, depression and other symptoms.”
Attendees will also learn about healthy eating habits and decision-making strategies, and meet local residents.
“As the group grows through the six weeks, they really get to know each other and oftentimes they’ll develop friendships,” Houser said. “One great thing is hearing that other people feel the same way or that they’re going through the same thing, and that makes them feel better – that it’s not only them. They feel that support, as well.”
