More winter weather is expected in Prince William County this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow is expected to begin late tonight.
It is possible that the wintry weather could continue through Saturday night and into Sunday morning, according to NWS.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is preparing the roads and began anti-icing operations on major roadways in the area.
More on VDOT’s preparations, from a release:
Motorists should expect delays and are urged to stay alert in this slow-moving mobile operation.
Trucks applying salt brine travel at approximately 35 mph.
Virginia State Police will accompany the anti-icing equipment to assist with traffic control on the interstate.
Anti-icing helps to prevent ice from bonding to the pavement during inclement weather, which can reduce the risk of hazardous travel conditions.
The brining operation is expected to be complete prior to the evening rush hour.
Late Friday night, VDOT crews will mobilize to stage equipment and prepare for the onset of the winter storm.
A mix of sleet, snow and freezing rain is expected to begin late Friday night and continue through the day on Saturday.
