An unexpected discovery is leading a Fauquier County resident to search for a new home.
Samantha Haines has won $250,000 from the Virginia Lottery after buying a ticket in Gainesville.
“I feel a little bit calm,” Haines told Virginia Lottery officials. “I don’t know if it just hasn’t sunk in.”
She scratched the Golden Nugget ticket that she purchased from 7-Eleven, 7489 Limestone Drive, while talking on the phone with her husband.
Haines plans to use the winnings for a down payment on a home.
The postal worker is the third winner of the game’s top prize, meaning that one hasn’t been claimed.
Players have a 1 in 489,600 chance of winning $250,000 and a 1 in 3.45 chance of receiving a prize.
