Lake Ridge is getting more green space.
Harbor Drive Commuter Parking Lot is transforming into a wellness park.
Located at the Harbor Drive — Minnieville Road intersection, the 2.5-acre space was constructed 32 years ago, according to a release from Prince William County.
Because the Minnieville Commuter Lot has been expanded and a bus service isn’t used in that area, the lot often sits unused by members of the community.
The park project, according to Supervisor Ruth Anderson, is slated to start in the fall.
Anderson hosted a Town Hall about the site in July 2018.
A pollinator garden and exercise equipment will be a couple of the property’s features.
“There’s going to be a trail with a big greenspace in the middle,” Anderson said in a release. “On that trail around the greenspace, there will be workout type of equipment that you would find at other fitness trails. There’s also going to be playground equipment for all ages. It going to be universal equipment, so even children with disabilities and seniors, who might have trouble walking, will be able to use some of this equipment.”
Prince William County has set aside $700,000 for the wellness park, and Kaiser Permanente is contributing $50,000 that can be used for the design, consultants and public meetings.
Anderson is seeking additional grants for the project, which is expected to cost $1.2 million.
