One county agency is searching for individuals who have a green thumb.
Volunteers are needed for the Prince William Virginia Cooperative Extension’s (VCE) Master Gardener program.
The program has helped more than 80 Prince William County schools, community centers, churches, and homeowners associations with their gardens, according to a release from the county.
Community members have an opportunity to become ‘Master Gardeners.’
Master Gardeners are knowledgeable on an array of topics, including pesticide safety and plant diseases.
They can help county residents grow green, healthy lawns, as well.
“It’s a great way to meet like-minded people, to get the latest research-based information about gardening and also to give back to the community,” Master Gardener Coordinator Nancy Berlin said in a release.
Citizens interested in becoming Master Gardeners must attend an information session and pass a background check.
Here are the dates, times and locations of the upcoming sessions:
- August 20 — 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Sudley North Government Center, 7987 Ashton Avenue in Manassas
- August 21 — 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Development Services Building, 5 County Complex Court in Woodbridge
- August 23 — 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the McCoart Government Center, 1 County Complex Court in Woodbridge
Community members can register for an information session by calling 703-792-7747 or emailing master_gardener@pwcgov.org.
