Five years ago, Ken Elston was elected to serve on the City of Manassas City Council.
On Monday, the city’s Vice Mayor announced his plan to resign at a council meeting.
Elston, George Mason University’s (GMU) School of Theater director, is accepting a position at High Point University in North Carolina. He will serve as the Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences and Director of Performing Arts.
His resignation will take effect at the end of July.
The City Council is permitted to choose someone to serve as an interim member until a Special Election occurs. An election may take place during a General Election or on a date requested from the Circuit Court.
