VFW Post 7916 had a surprise visitor that traveled more than 7,500 miles.
According to a release, Technical Sergeant Nicholas Alexander from Osan Air Base in South Korea traveled to the post to deliver a special bronze plate and signed lithographs to recognize the post’s Black Cat Lounge.
“One litho commemorates the 40th Anniversary of U-2 operations from Osan AB, the other is a U-2 Litho,” stated a release.

The 5th Reconnaissance Squadron, well known as “The Black Cats,” fly highly sensitive and classified U-2 reconnaisance and surveillance missions from Osan AB. The Black Cats have the origional Black Cat Lounge at Osan AB,
The inscription on the bronze plate read “To VFW Post 7916, Col Wilson Black Cat Lounge, From The Men and Women of 5RS, Aug 2017” in recognition of VFW Post 7916 support for the 5RS with a Black Cat Lounge (NCR). Accepting the award for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Virginia District 10 Commander, Chuck Wilson, came forward and provided a few words, “This is an honor to receive such a special award and for you to travel this vast distance.”
TSGT Alexander, “Sir this is an honor for me to do this. I am a proud Black Cat, and, I am a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,” showing his VFW aluminum ID card. TSGT Alexander is just finishing up his “mid-tour” leave here in the CONUS.
