Veterinarian assistants, students and technicians interested in learning more about animal care and immunization have an opportunity to gain experience.
The Prince William County Police Department’s Animal Control Division is accepting applications for unpaid summer internships, according to a release.
The internships will give selected candidates a chance to work in the Prince William County Animal Shelter in Manassas and Caring Hands Animal Hospital of Bristow.
“Shelter medicine is growing in this country immensely, where all shelters pretty much have to have some sort of veterinarian relationship or a veterinarian on either staff or on contract … and shelter medicine is quite different than your typical vet clinic or your spay-neuter clinic environment,” Animal Shelter Manager Suzette Kapp said.
Interns will be able to see spay-neuter surgeries, perform health assessments and treating wounds.
Online applications are due by March 26.
To be considered, applicants must be 18 years old and “in good academic standing” with the school they are enrolled at. They must also not have been convicted of a serious misdemeanor.
A letter of recommendation, a college transcript and a cover letter must be included with their application.
