The Hylton Performing Arts Center has received $15,000 from Dominion Energy to support their Veterans Guitar Workshop Series.
The series is part of Hylton’s ‘Veterans and the Arts Initiative’, and offers 10 weeks of free guitar lessons with guitar instructor Glen McCarthy to veterans at all skill levels.
More on the Veterans and the Arts Initiative, from a release:
The Veterans and the Arts Initiative provides an ideal platform to bring together Veterans’ service organizations, community organizations, arts groups, and the local government to engage with Veterans and their families in Northern Virginia.
Based on feedback from local Veterans and the community, as well as increased financial support, the Veterans and the Arts Initiative is poised to grow exponentially over the next five years.
Participant reaction to the series, from a release:
Positive reactions from participants in the Dominion Energy Veterans Guitar Workshop Series are reflected in testimonials like “it was great to meet the doctor and socialize and make music with fellow Veterans. I’m now committed to becoming a better guitar player and hope to continue with more (of) these events,” as well as “I’m enjoying class and getting what I wanted from it, since I have a background in music…this class has been piecing things together for me.”
