Local law enforcement are collecting it.
Members of the Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD), Manassas City Police Department (MCPD) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and area organizations are running a Drug Take-Back Day.
The event is occurring between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on October 26, according to a release from PWCPD.
Prescriptions will be accepted at Novant Health UVA Health System Haymarket Medical Center, 15225 Heathcote Boulevard; Novant Health UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center, 8700 Sudley Road in Manassas; and Sentara Lake Ridge Medical Center, 12825 Minnieville Road.
Unused and expired prescriptions can result in drug abuse, overdoses and accidental poisoning, according to the DEA.
Individuals retrieve or illegally sell medications that are thrown away.
Water supplies can be polluted by those that are flushed down the toilet.
Throughout the Drug Take-Back Day, event organizers won’t collect illegal drugs, needles or injectables.
Participants may protect their privacy by removing labels or darkening the information with a marker.
