Road infrastructure is continuing to change throughout the region.
Members of the Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) heard about various transportation projects from the county’s department of transportation.
They include updates along Route 1.
Utility and water lines located between Featherstone and Mary’s Way are being moved. The work, which is part of a Route 1 Widening Project is expected to wrap up in fall 2021.
Design work has begun for the Route 1 Widening in Dumfries. Funding for the project is being discussed and a start date hasn’t been set.
Officials are also creating designs for the Neabsco Mills Road, which will be converted from a two-lane undivided road to four-lane divided road. Construction is expected to start in March 2021.
The design step for the Potomac-Neabsco Mills Commuter Garage is about to begin.
It will be located at at 2501 Opitz Boulevard in Woodbridge and provide more than 1,400 spaces. Work on the garage is slated for completion in fall 2023.
