Several roads in Prince William County are receiving updates.
The Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) recently heard the progress of area transportation projects.
Here are a few projects they heard about, according to a release from the county:
- I-66 and Route 15 Park and Ride of Haymarket – Officials have begun constructing a commuter lot on the northern part of I-66 and Route 15. The lot, which will hold 230 parking spaces, is slated for completion in spring 2019.
- Proposed commuter bus service – A commuter bus service has been proposed for the Haymarket area. If approved, it will offer routes on the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor and use the park and ride lot. The service is expected to begin in early 2019. Multiple public hearings are scheduled throughout the next couple of weeks.
- Route 1 widening — A public hearing on the widening of Route 1 in Dumfries has been scheduled for Thursday. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Dumfries Elementary School.
- Route 28 — Officials are working on the second phase of the Route 28 widening project. Route 28 is being expanded to four lanes from Fitzwater Drive to Vint Hill Road, a project that’s expected to be completed in October 2019. In the third phase, which will begin in winter 2019, the road will be widened to six lanes from Linton Hall Road to Pennsylvania Avenue.
- Bull Run Station and Yard Improvements — Analysis has started on the station, parking and train storage area. Officials have selected a location for additional parking on Residency Road. The analysis and the project’s final design are expected to be finished in early 2019.
