Local businesses and organizations are helping spread hope and joy to youth in need.
The Marine Toys for Tots Program has begun.
Until December 10, new and unwrapped toys can be donated to drop off sites. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is collecting online contributions, as well.
Community members can make a donation and learn about those who are accepting gifts by visiting the Toys for Tots website.
The Toys for Tots program was founded in 1947.
Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks’ wife, Diane, had asked him to drop off handcrafted dolls to an organization that helps less fortunate children. Hendricks wasn’t able to locate an agency, so Diane encouraged him to create one.
That year, 5,000 toys were collected and handed out by Hendricks and his Los Angeles reserve unit.
