Motorists are being reminded to avoid texting when operating a vehicle.
Sending messages while driving is illegal, according to a release from the Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD).
It can also serve as a distraction by drawing a person’s eyes off the road their mind off driving.
Because the Commonwealth views it as a primary offense, officers may stop commuters even if they aren’t breaking other laws.
Those who are found guilty of texting will be charged a $125 fine the first time and $250 for future violations.
Drivers who are under 18 years old aren’t allowed to use their cell phones.
