The temperature is continuing to climb in Prince William County as we near the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), they have issued a heat advisory, which is in effect from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.
“The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure,” stated NWS.
NWS is expecting heat indices of 105 degrees or more, Friday through Sunday, with severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, and hail potentially happening on Saturday.
Yesterday’s Code Orange air quality alert is also still in effect.
“A Code Orange Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors,” stated NWS.
To accommodate the rising temperature and humidity, the Bill Mehr Drop-In Center in Woodbridge is extending their hours today for homeless residents.
According to the center, they will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The center is located at 14716 Potomac Mills Road.
