Holley Ruper Sheffel and a fellow English teacher at Potomac Senior High School are taking part in the National Day of Writing on October 20 by sending notes to U.S. military members.
According to Sheffel, the teachers will have students in their classes take part in writing the personal notes stationed to military service members stated in the United States and overseas.
“Students are currently raising money to cover the cost of notecards and postage,” stated Sheffel.
Sheffel is asking residents to send recommendations for service members that the students should send letters to. If you know of someone that would benefit from receiving a letter, Sheffel asked that you forward their information to her by email at scheffha@pwcs.edu.
“We are participating in this initiative to acknowledge and show respect for those who sacrifice time away from their family and friends to serve and protect the freedoms of the American people. It is important to the community to remember these soldiers because if it were not for them and their hard work, we may not have been able to even participate in this type of activity,” stated Sheffel.
