Students are departing high school with marketable skills and professional career licenses.
Woodbridge Senior High School in Lake Ridge and Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas offer a two-year career and technical education (CTE) program for cosmetology.
A press release by Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) announced a record breaking 56 students passed the State Board exam to earn their licenses this year.
Thirty students from Stonewall Jackson High School and 26 students from Woodbridge Senior High School passed and graduated as certified cosmetologists.
Interested students apply for the program their sophomore year of high school, and take classes during junior and senior year. At the conclusion of senior year, participants in the program take the State Board licensure exam.
While enrolled in CTE, future cosmetologists had the opportunity to travel to hair shows, attend educational classes from outside vendors, conduct mock interviews, and work with stylists in the industry to learn about the latest trends.
