Streetlight Community Outreach Ministries has opened a new year-round homeless shelter in Woodbridge.
The organization refurbished the “winter” shelter at 14730 Potomac Mills Road, so that it can now be open all twelve months of the year.
The shelter serves adults only, according to a release.
At the grand opening of the shelter, individuals greet homeless residents with tote bags filled with items like hats, socks, and gloves, and All Saints Church prepared and served a warm meal.
“The overnight year round shelter is badly needed, particularity for the medically fragile homeless population,” stated Streetlight in a release.
There will be staff on-site to run the shelter, and Streetlight is collecting funds to fill a $25,000 gap they have in operating costs for the first year of running the shelter.
Individuals interested in donation to the effort can do so on Streetlight’s Facebook or mailing a check to their location at 1550 Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge.
