One student is heading to Space Camp this summer.
Ashlyn Jones from the General Heiser Boys & Girls Club in Dumfries has received a Women in Technology award.
Christine Sanni, Mid-Atlantic South Channel Manager for Intelisys, presented the recognition at the club on Friday.
“I wish I had someone when I was your age to come to me and say that I could do anything that I put my mind to,” Sanni said. “But you can, you will, and I totally believe — a thousand percent — that you are our country’s future leader and that you can change the world.”
Through the award, Ashlyn is also receiving a full scholarship to a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) Space Camp that’s occurring in Virginia.
“It is sponsored by NASA, so it’s going to be a phenomenal opportunity for them to experience science and technology and engineering and math on a really high level,” Sanni said.
