One Prince William County youth is gaining recognition for his research on traumatic brain injuries.
Shan Lateef from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) has been awarded with the Neuroscience Research Prize.
Lateef, a Prince William County resident, previously attended Benton Middle School in Manassas.
The annual award, presented by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the Child Neurology Society, acknowledges students who complete brain and nervous system research.
In addition to winning a $1,000 scholarship, the sophomore is receiving a paid trip to the AAN conference in Philadelphia, according to a release from Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS).
He plans to deliver his traumatic brain injury research, which he did last year, at the conference.
Lateef has been asked to present it at the International Brain Injury Conference in Toronto and the Annual Traumatic Brain Injury Conference in Washington, D.C.
