In Virginia and North Carolina, no novel coronavirus cases have been confirmed, as of Wednesday.
However, this isn’t stopping Sentara Healthcare from taking precautions.
In addition to establishing a Coronavirus Task Force, the health system is staying in contact with various agencies — the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), the North Carolina Department of Health (NCDHHS), and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC).
Signs that encourage hospital and doctor’s office visitors to wear a mask have also been posted, according to Sentara’s website. This precaution can help prevent respiratory illnesses from spreading.
There are shortages and back orders for some medical supplies, due to the coronavirus.
Clinicians and members of the supply chain team are identifying other products and sources, where they can do so.
Sentara is also working with a personal protective equipment (PPE) manufacturer that will increase production to fill supply orders.
Community members are advised to wash their hands, clean items that are touched frequently, avoid those who are sick, and stay home if they think they’re ill.
Anyone who has traveled internationally — or been around those who traveled internationally and are sick — and is experiencing cough, fever or shortness of breath should call their healthcare provider prior to making an appointment.
More information can be found on Sentara’s website or the CDC website.
