Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (SNVMC) has a new president.
Jeff Joyner will fill the role, starting in June, according to a press release from Sentara Health.
“Following a national search, Sentara is proud to have Jeff Joyner join our organization to lead our operations in the Northern Virginia region,” Paul A. Gaden, regional president of the Western Region of Sentara Health, said in a release. “Jeff is an innovative and results-driven leader with a successful record in healthcare administration and government, and he has the strategic acumen to help Sentara achieve its mission to improve health every day.”
Joyner is replacing Christopher Pierson, who has acted as the Woodbridge hospital’s Interim-President since January. Kathie Johnson was President before Pierson.
As president of Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, Joyner will be responsible for the functioning of different facilities – including Lake Ridge Ambulatory Surgery Center, Sentara Advanced Imaging Centers, Sentara Therapy Centers, and primary care offices.
“I am excited about joining the Sentara team,” he said in a release. “One of the things that attracted me to the organization is not only the cutting-edge work being done in the Northern Virginia region but also broadly across Sentara Health that is known for being an innovative and progressive healthcare delivery system in the U.S.”
Joyner was most recently the Senior Vice President and Chief Hospital Executive at A.O. Fox Hospital. Located in New York, A.O. Fox Hospital is a part of the Bassett Healthcare Network.
Other positions SNVMC’s new president has held include System Vice President of Operations at St. Joseph’s Healthcare System in New Jersey.
He has also held local healthcare roles, such as Vice President of Professional Services at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., and Vice President of Patient Support Services and Director of Patient Registration at Holy Cross Hospital in Maryland.
Joyner received his bachelor’s in Business Administration and Economics from the University of Maine at Farmington, and Master of Health Administration through the University of New Hampshire.
