A group of businesses and individuals have come together for almost 30 years for a ‘Secret Santa Shopping Spree’ and they’re doing it again this year.
The event is a way for people to come together and support elementary school students in need, by purchasing gifts for them.
“Many of the children we have supported would have had nothing for Christmas if it were not for our generosity,” stated a release.
Each year, elementary school guidance counselors select students to take part in the program, as they’re aware of those students that may need assistance.
Among the participating schools are Potomac View Elementary, Featherstone Elementary, Marumsco Hills Elementary, Kilby Elementary, Belmont Elementary, Triangle Elementary, Montclair Elementary Coles Elementary, Elizabeth Vaughn Elementary, Leesylvania Elementary, Bel Air Elementary and Swans Creek Elementary.
“The children’s parents are notified they have been invited to attend a Secret Santa shopping spree. The parents are given a set amount of funds which can only be used to purchase children’s toys or clothes. When the parents finish shopping, their purchases are paid for with [donations],” according to a release.
The shopping spree will take place on December 20, and interested individuals are asked to donate to make the event a success.
