Community members who enjoy word games may want to dust off their dictionary.
BEACON for English Language & Literacy is bringing back its Scrabble Scramble Fundraising Tournament on February 24.
The program runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Linton Hall School gym, 9535 Linton Hall Road in Bristow. Food, competitive team play, prizes, and a raffle will be offered.
Registration is available on OneCause. It costs $120 for four players.
The proceeds are supporting BEACON for English Language & Literacy, which provides classes for adult learners who reside in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park.
More than 140 volunteers helped over 450 students develop job readiness skills, learn English, and get ready for the U.S. Citizenship exam throughout the past year. These pupils come from more than 50 countries.
“This event is a unique and engaging way for our community members to support our mission. Scrabble Scramble not only brings people together for a fun and creative challenge but also plays a crucial role in advancing BEACON’s commitment to empowering adult learners,” Executive Director Jennifer Katac said in a release. “Through your participation, you are directly contributing to our programs that enable individuals to achieve their personal and professional goals. Together, we are spelling out a brighter future for adult learners, one tile at a time.”
