The generous donations that Prince William residents made to the community over the holidays made a big impact, according to the Prince William County Salvation Army.
During the holiday season, the Salvation Army conducted their annual toy drive across the county, and it was a huge success, according to Major George Hackbarth.
“Christmas is a time for joy, happiness, and giving. You brought all of those things to the families and children through your participation in our Christmas program,” stated Hackbarth in a thank you letter for the community.
According to the letter, 1,245 children were given toys, clothing, and stockings, 459 families were given a food gift card, 600 nursing homes were given cosmetic items – totaling 3,184 people in the county helped during the holidays.
Hackbarth was grateful for all of the donations the Salvation Army received.
“Please know that you are appreciated. Know that your work helped light up the face of a child as they opened those gifts on Christmas morning and that you helped countless parents, grandparents and guardians who may have otherwise not been able to provide gifts,” stated Hackbarth in the thank you letter.
