Work continues on the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) I-95 bridge improvement, which means more road delays.
According to a release, as VDOT crews work on the bridge over the Ni River in Spotsylvania County, there will be double lane closures and overnight travel delays.
The following are planned lane closures for this week, from VDOT:
I-95 Northbound and Southbound
Monday, Aug. 14 ˗˗ Friday, Aug. 18 (ending at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19)
- Single lane closure at 9 p.m. at mile marker 121 (Ni River bridge) south of Exit 126 (Route 1/Massaponax)
- Double lane closure at 10 p.m.
- All lanes open by 4:30 a.m.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control near the work zone.
Motorists will see message boards warning them about the work zone and closures.
Project Background
This work is part of the $6.6 million project to rehabilitate six bridges on I-95 in Spotsylvania and Stafford counties. The project currently underway will improve the condition of northbound and southbound bridges that carry I-95 traffic over the Ni River in Spotsylvania, and over Aquia Creek and Potomac Creek in Stafford County.
Construction started last fall to improve the condition of the bridges over the Ni River.
Crews will then work on the Potomac Creek bridges, which are located at mile marker 137, just north of Exit 136/Centreport Parkway) before moving to the Aquia Creek bridges located at mile marker 145 just north of Exit 143/Route 610 in Stafford County.
The entire project is expected to be completed in early November 2018.
