The new R. Dean Kilby Elementary School is now open in Woodbridge.
“The new replacement school”, named for a former Prince William County Public Schools administrator, had it’s ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony last night at the 14.46 acre site at 1800 Horner Road.
The school is 106,614 square feet and has the capacity to hold more than 850 elementary students.
The building has six kindergarten classrooms, 12 primary classrooms, seven special education classrooms, seventeen intermediate classrooms, one computer labor, one art room, one music room, one band room, one science lab, and one story room, as well as a cafeteria and space for physical education and group activities.
During the ceremony the Kilby Elementary School Chorus performed, and elected officials, teachers, and the school’s principal spoke.
“For the past 58 years, Kilby Elementary School has served the surrounding communities…I am sure that the thousands of students who have attended this school have many, many fond memories of their time here…this new school is a symbol of the most important investment our community can make in our future,” said Supervisor Frank Principi.
