The holidays are over, but your tree remains. What can you do with it?
There are several ways you can recycle your holiday greenery, so it can start its new life as compost or mulch.
The Prince William County Landfill at 14811 Dumfries Road in Manassas will be accepting trees Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Balls Ford Road Compost Facility at 13000 Balls Ford Road in Manassas will take trees Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Leesylvania State Park at 2001 Daniel Ludwig Drive in Woodbridge will take trees during their normal hours. Trees may be dropped at Shelter 2.
And Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) at 5399 Wellington Branch Road in Gainesville will take trees until January 8. “The drop off area is located in the front parking lot in the area outlined with the orange safety cones. NOVEC will deliver the wood-chip mulch to interested customer-owners at no charge,” stated a release.
It’s important to remove all decorations, ornaments, or other items from the tree before recycling it.
