Here’s an update on the progress being made on the River Mill Park in Occoquan.
According to Occoquan Town Manager Kirstyn Jovanovich, Phase I of the park is on track to be completed in January. Phase I includes restroom facilities, a storage facility, new railing and lighting for the footbridge and a new brick path, according to Jovanovich.
Once the initial work is completed, Phase II will begin, stated Jovanovich.
“Phase II is expected to begin in January, which includes an event pavilion, completion of the stone dust trail, park lighting and landscaping inside the park,” stated Jovanovich.
River Mill Park will have it’s grand opening next April, and the town has already begun planning programming – including events and concerts – to take place in the park during 2016, according to Jovanovich.
“We hope to utilize this space for various community events, as well as a place for people to come and relax and enjoy the view of the river,” stated Jovanovich.
Want to get involved with Occoquan’s efforts on River Mill Park? Jovanovich stated that businesses and individuals can purchase a commemorative brick for the new sidewalk that will be in front of the park.
“All funds generated through this program will go toward park programming and maintenance in Occoquan,” stated Jovanovich.
