The Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (PWCAC DST) is hosting an artist showcase in Woodbridge on December 3.
According to a release, the showcase will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn at 2500 Neabsco Common Place.
“Guests will have the opportunity to meet, hear and see the talent of five local area authors, a young artist and African drum group,” stated a release.

This free showcase, in its seventh year, encourages literacy, exposure to the arts, and supports emerging local talent. The program allows each participant to share his or her work with the event guests. The day also includes a reception, so guests can enjoy refreshments, talk with the participants and purchase their work. Perhaps even buy a few stocking stuffers for the holidays.
The talented seven include Prince William residents. The Heritage Village Project: African drummers; artist Joliza Terry, Dr. Michael Otaigbe author of “ABCs of Creating an Academic Star” and former Prince William County School Board Member; author and Prince William County Teacher Nicole Clark – “I Can Learn if You Teach Me” ; Dr. El Brown – “Mama Bear: One Mom’s Story of Optimism, Autism, Advocacy and Love” ; Dr. Avis A. Jones-Deweever – “How Exceptional Black Women Lead” and Loudoun resident, Tracee Garner, author of “Anchored Hearts” and “Love Unchosen.”
The Showcase will also highlight Prince William community youth—members of PWCAC DST mentoring programs for middle and high school age girls, the Delta Academy and Delta GEMS.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. established the National Arts and Letters Commission with the purpose of supporting African-American women in the arts. Throughout its history, the Commission has been comprised of accomplished members of the sorority including Lena Horne, Nikki Giovanni, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Angela Bassett and Daphne Maxwell Reid.
The Prince William Alumnae Chapter’s Arts and Letters Committee plans and coordinates the Red Carpet Showcase to expose and educate the community about the creative and performing arts. The Committee’s programs are designed to promote awareness and appreciation for various forms of the arts.
