The Prince William County and Manassas school boards selected their chairs and vice chairs for the new year.
Manassas made their selections at the school board meeting on January 2. According to a release, Manassas has selected member Sanford Williams as the new Chairman and member Kristen Kiefer as Vice Chairman.

Williams has been a member of the board since 2010. He currently serves as chairman of the school board’s academic committee and is a member of the policy and finance committees. He also serves as the board’s representative for the Gifted and Talented Advisory Board. In 2014, Williams was selected by Governor Terry McAuliffe to serve on Virginia’s inaugural SOL Innovation Committee, a position he held for 2 years. He has been recognized by the Governor for his advocacy in SOL reform.
Williams was named the 2018 Advocate for Education by the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) in November.
Kiefer was elected to the board in November 2015 by special election to fill the portion of a term left vacant. She was elected to serve a full term in November 2016. She currently serves as chair for the policy committee, and currently a member on the personnel and finance committees. She also provides school board representation for the Governor’s School @Innovative Park and Fine Arts Advisory Board.
And on January 3, the Prince William County School Board voted for member Lillie Jessie to serve her third term as Vice Chairman.

Lillie Jessie was elected by the School Board to serve as Vice Chairman in 2016 and again in 2017. She was first elected on November 6, 2012 to fill the remaining term of the Occoquan District seat which was vacated in the spring of 2012. The seat had been filled on an interim basis until the election. She was re-elected in November 2015. Mrs. Jessie, a former teacher and administrator in Prince William County Public Schools, retired in the 2010-11 school year after a 35-year career, 20 years of which were served as principal of Vaughan Elementary School.
