“I and the parents in our office were reverbing parents in the community asking, what do I do now?”- Heather Stietzel, Chamber Staff Member.
The unprecedented start of the school year has presented a challenge for parents and the Prince William Chamber of Commerce wanted to help. The solution: 2020 Back To School Bash, A Parent Resource Fair.
The event, a virtual expo, will feature 20+ businesses in the area where they can speak directly to businesses in real time, just like they would if they were walking up to a booth in a resource fair. This is a unique experience, designed by local small business owner, Yahaira (aka Ms. Yahya) Stewart of ZEMZ Events.
“We are super honored to be working with the chamber and helping businesses pivot their services by being innovative and tech savvy during these crazy times. Small businesses and our patrons need a platform to be seen and heard, we are proud to provide that with ease!”
The Back To School Bash is not just a resource fair, they will have a collection of Keynote Speakers — each reflecting a different subject of discussion for parents to adapt in the new normal. Keynote speakers, scheduled to cover:
- 9 a.m.: Northwest Federal Credit Union presents, “Get Smart! School, Students & Saving …. a financial literacy presentation by Northwest Federal Credit Union”
- 10 a.m.: Premier Martial Arts discusses back to school success through Premier Martial Arts
- 11 a.m.: ARTfactory features Arts Education options for Back to School – in-person and online
12 p.m.: Closing Keynote presentation from Radhika Bajaj from Bookworm Central will discuss the importance of literature beyond the ‘read time’ and how parents can incorporate literature into the family lexicon!
This event is free and open to the public on August 28th 2020, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. for booths, closing speaker will begin when booths digitally close in the virtual lobby. Brief registration upon entry, but then you are able to wander around the virtual booths.
