County residents have a chance to see the Cold War from a different perspective.
Volker Benkert, an assistant professor in the School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies at Arizona State University, will be talking about children who grew up in East Germany.
His presentation “Youth Behind the Wall: Socialization of East German Youth During the Cold War”, starts at 2 p.m. on November 15.
Run by the Cold War Museum, the online program will be offered through Zoom.
In addition to serving as an Assistant Professor, Benkert directs the World War II Studies Program that’s provided through a partnership with the National World War II Museum in New Orleans.
He is also the writer of Glückskinder der Einheit: Lebenswege der um 1970 in der DDR Geborenen (Berlin: Ch. Links Verlag 2017).
More information about the presentation and tickets, which cost $20, can be found on eventbrite.
Proceeds from the event will support the Cold War Museum.
Anyone who is unable to participate can buy a ticket and receive a link to the video by emailing the museum’s Executive Director Jason Hall at jason@coldwar.org.
