The Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD) is offering a program that could help save lives.
Individuals, businesses, houses of worship, and other organizations can participate in an active violence training that the department runs.
Details about the training were discussed at a School Safety Town Hall that Supervisor John Jenkins hosted last month.
The town hall took place at at Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge.
The training seeks to ensure that community members are ready in case an active shooting occurs.
“The police department tries to make its community as prepared as possible,” Sergeant Sarah Rolle said. “We find that the first steps that you can take as a citizen will help save your life and could possibly save others before the police department get there.”
The hour-long program teaches participants about how they can protect themselves and save the lives of others.
“We cover topics like action versus reaction,” Rolle said. “We also cover some strategies that can help save your life, such as hiding, running or fighting.”
