The Humane Society of Northern Virginia (HSNV) believes in supporting the community.
Its work ranges from sharing donations it doesn’t need with other rescues to educating youth about being responsible pet owners.

During the next couple of months, residents and businesses can support this organization.
On September 30, a “Pets 4 Life” 1K & 5K Walk/Run is taking place, rain or shine. HSNV is running the program with Beagle, Rescue, Education and Welfare (BREW).
The pet-friendly event will occur at Prince William Forest Park, 18170 Park Entrance Road in Triangle. Check in and registration are at 9 a.m., and the race is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
Even though HSNV and BREW are hosting the fundraiser, they aren’t the only organizations that will reap the benefits. A3P Board President and Volunteer Christy Lynn explained that the event’s impact will spread across the community.
“We don’t just work within our own little bubble,” Lynn said. “We are very much about community outreach and about helping out not just us but other rescues.”
Walkers and runners may sign up for the 1K for $40 or the 5K for $50 on the humane society’s website. This cost includes the Prince William Forest Park entrance fee.
The first 50 people who register will receive swag bags.
Sponsorship opportunities ranging from $100 to $1,500 are available for the “Pets 4 Life” 1K & 5K Walk/Run. HSNV and BREW are accepting items for gift baskets, as well.
Current sponsors include Jewelry By Design in Woodbridge, a big supporter of the humane society that is providing a gift certificate. Tidal Basin in Alexandria is a Top Dog sponsor of the fundraiser.
