A social networking site is helping area law enforcement improve safety.
The Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD) is partnering with Nextdoor, a free social network designed for neighborhoods.
Together, citizens and the department can use it to protect localities by spreading news and passing on information about upcoming events, according to a release.
“We are always seeking innovative and collaborative ways to increase safety for our residents,” Crime Prevention Unit Sergeant Sarah Rolle Supervisor said in a release. “With Nextdoor, we can help empower neighbors to keep their communities safe and give them the ability to collaborate on neighborhood watch efforts.”
The PWCPD is one of more than 2,400 organizations that use Nextdoor, where websites for each neighborhood are established.
Residents must verify their address to join the site.
