It looks like there will be some additional delays on I-95 and Route 1 overnight this week, as the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) completes road work projects.
According to VDOT, there will be lane closures and delays overnight from January 3 to January 5 on I-95 northbound near Fredericksburg, southbound near Mary Washington Boulevard, and Route 1 southbound near the Falmouth Bridge.
More on the road projects and times, from VDOT:
I-95 Northbound
On Wednesday, Jan. 4 and Thursday, Jan. 5 two lanes will be closed on I-95 northbound at mile marker 131 to allow crews to remove overhangs from the new Fall Hill Avenue bridge over I-95. The overhangs were used during construction of the new bridge. On both nights a single lane will be closed at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will be open to traffic by 4:30 a.m. each day.
Route 1 Southbound
Beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5 a single lane will be closed on Route 1 southbound between Alvey Drive and the canal bridge. Crews are performing storm sewer work and installing new median at various locations in the work zone. All lanes will be open to traffic by 6 a.m. Friday morning.
Falmouth Bridge
Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 3 a single lane will be closed on Route 1 southbound on the Falmouth Bridge. The lane closure will be in place from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. each day through Thursday, Jan. 5 for bridge deck repairs. The bridge is located on Route 1 between the Fredericksburg City limits and the Falmouth Intersection.
