Ornery Beer Company & Public House customers will soon need a new place to have a meal or a drink.
The Woodbridge-based brewpub has announced that it is closing on Monday. The business, which sits in a 12,000-square-foot facility at 14389 Potomac Mills Road, is unable to pay the $24,000 monthly rent.
“After long conversations and negotiations with the shopping center ownership, they are unwilling to work with us to reduce our size or our rent and are taking possession on the leased property,” Owner and Founder Randy Barnette wrote in a letter posted on Facebook. “We have not been permitted a smooth 30-day notice to properly let our team know so they may arrange for new employment.”
Ornery Beer Company & Public House, Woodbridge’s first brewery, opened three years ago. It was named the Best Brewery/Distillery in Prince William County for two consecutive years and it’s Light of Cologne Kolsch received a gold medal in the Great American Beer Festival.
The business may not be closing its doors for good, however. Its management team is talking with investors and is hoping to relocate to a smaller building.
“Although we are speaking to multiple possibilities, we do not know timeline, location, or if we will be able to accomplish relocation in the short period of time we have to work within,” Barnette wrote. “If we are successful at relocation, we may become a new smaller brewpub or a brewery & taproom.”
