Thanksgiving is still a couple of months away, but a local non-profit is already preparing for the holiday.
Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) is collecting items for this year’s Operation Turkey.
Lutheran Church of the Covenant (LCOC) in Dale City is helping with the annual food drive.
“Our mission at Lutheran Church of the Covenant is to Gather, Grow, Give, and Go,” LCOC Council Member Patti Beattie wrote in an email. “Participating in Operation Turkey is a perfect way to reach out to the community and give to others out of gratitude for all that we have been given. We encourage all who are able to do the same.”
Last year, the Dumfries-based organization provided meals to more than 780 families through the annual food drive.
It’s hoping to serve 1,000 families in November.
To meet its goal, ACTS needs the following products:
- Canned Sweet Potatoes (15oz)
- Boxed Corn Muffin Mix (8.5oz)
- Boxed Stuffing Mix (6oz)
- Boxed Pie Crust Mix (9oz)
- Canned Pumpkin Pie Mix (15oz)
- Gravy Mix Packets
- Cranberry Sauce (14 oz)
- Instant Mashed Potatoes (13.75oz)
- Pie Filling
- Evaporated Milk (12 oz)
Donations must be brought the ACTS Hunger Prevention Center, located at 17958 Drive David Cline Lane in Dumfries, by October 12.
The center is open from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays; from 1 to 3 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays; and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Meals will be distributed between November 1 and November 20.
