The legacy of a former doctor is being remembered in Manassas.
Friends, family and members of the community gathered for Operation JOHN (Joy Of Holidays Never-ending) at Novant Health UVA Prince William Medical Center in Manassas on Saturday.
The annual event honored Dr. John Gonzalez, who was an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) for more than 20 years.
“It’s one of those things where I think my dad would be very, very proud of just how everyone — not only at labor [and] delivery — but how the whole community came out to show support,” Greg Gonzalez, his son, told What’s Up Prince William. “And this is something that — what was amazing was hearing a lot of different stories from different members of the community talking about how my dad basically impacted their lives in a very positive way.”
More than 100 Christmas trees were given away during Operation JOHN, which also featured baked goods and a silent auction.
Through the auction, organizers raised enough funds to cover prenatal care costs for three new mothers who are less fortunate. It will be donated to GPW Health Center.
A $3,000 donation was presented to Prince William Hospital Labor & Delivery, as well.
The hospital also dedicated a room to Dr. John Gonzalez — the same room his grandson, Bryce, was born in.
