Throughout the Commonwealth, residents and visitors see and hear the phrase “Virginia is for lovers”.
This year, the slogan turns 50. It was created by Martin & Woltz, an advertising company in Richmond, in 1969.
The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) is celebrating the anniversary.
Thirty-nine agencies received funding from VTC, including Prince William County’s Office of Tourism.
It was awarded with a $10,000 grant.
“The County is excited to partner with Virginia Tourism Corporation to celebrate the iconic ‘Virginia is for Lovers’ brand on its 50th birthday,” Tourism Director Ann Marie Maher said in a release. “The Office of Tourism will be utilizing the grant to intensify messaging this summer and inspire travelers to visit and fall in ‘LOVE’ with the many unique experiences that Prince William, Virginia has to offer.”
The county’s ‘50 Years of Love’ campaign is starting at Tough Mudder Virginia in Haymarket on June 1.
Additional programs will take place at local events and venues, including the Summer Occoquan Arts and Crafts Show, the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, and Sweeney Barn in Manassas.
