Occoquan has received a budget award for the second year in a row.
According to a release, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has given Occoquan their Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the town’s 2016-2017 annual budget.
“Occoquan’s Budget Committee, consisting of Mayor Elizabeth A.C. Quist, Town Manager Kirstyn Jovanovich and Town Treasurer Abigail Breeding, was awarded a certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation for its role in the Town’s nationally recognized accomplishment,” stated a release.
The award is a significant achievement for local governments.
“I’m very pleased that the Town of Occoquan has, again, been awarded this distinction. It is a credit to the Town Staff and Budget Committee for their efforts, and a testament to the Council’s desire to be transparent, accountable, and communicative,” stated Quist in a release.
More on the award, from a release:
In order to receive the budget award, the Town had to satisfy nationally recognized expert guidelines for effective budget presentation. Occoquan’s budget presentation rated “proficient” in all four categories designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as (1) a policy document, (2) a financial plan, (3) an operations guide and (4) a communications device.
“The GFOA, which consists of financial officers and experts from across the United States and Canada, has once again recognized that Occoquan has an outstanding method of budget reporting,” said Town Manager Kirstyn Jovanovich. “I am proud of our staff, Council and community for producing an award-winning budget presentation for the second year in a row and hope to continue to improve and enhance the process and document in the future.”
