The Occoquan Water Trail League is an organization that works to preserve the Occoquan River for the community.
According to Nancy Howser, a member of the league, their current project is to create mile markers along the trail. The trail extends from Bull Run to Mason Neck State Park and around to Pohick Bay Regional Park, according to Howser.
“Our biggest project right now is we have gone ahead and created mile markers for the 43 mile water trail,” said Howser.
In addition to installing the mile markers, the league also hosts paddling events for people to get out and enjoy the River. There are some serious perks for becoming a league member, says Howser.
“Your membership, if you choose to, become a member actually enables you to paddle at any of the regional parks. As well as get into the state park without [an] admission fee,” said Howser.
