The Occoquan VFW Post 7916 celebrated their platinum 70th anniversary in the community.
“We’ve come a long way from our start with 34 veterans in June of 1946, to over 586 veterans (active duty, retired, and honorably discharged), along with over 140 Auxiliary members in Post 7916 today,” stated Commander Chuck Wilson in a release.
The Post had a reception at their location in Occoquan to celebrate the anniversary, and it’s growth to more than 700 members.
During the celebration, past President of the Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Fire Department Edward Miller presented photos from the 1930s and 1940s, according to a release. During that time, the fire department’s building was located where VFW Post 7916 now stands, stated a release.
