Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS), the Safeway Foundation, and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) have come together for the Hunger Is “Hungry for More” childhood hunger campaign.
According to a release, the campaign is designed to raise awareness and collect funds to fight childhood hunger in the United States. Funds collected from the campaign will be given to NVFS for their work serving Prince William area families.
The childhood hunger campaign will run through October 15 in more than 2,300 Safeway grocery stores throughout the country, and shoppers will be able to contribute to the group’s efforts when purchasing grocery items.
“I am beyond thrilled to see how our communities joined together last year to support the eradication of childhood hunger in America. The Hunger Is ‘Hungry for More’ campaign is essential for educating the public on just how severe the issue of childhood hunger is – in every community – throughout the country. A child who has eaten breakfast is able to learn more, live healthier and achieve greater success in life. It’s an honor to continue to stand with the Safeway Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation to help put an end to this significant problem,” said Hunger Is Ambassador Viola Davis.
NVFS’ SERVE campus in Manassas serves 350 low-income and homeless children each year, according to a release.
“The ‘Hunger Is’ funds we received will help provide breakfast food and nutritional information through our SERVE Breakfast! program so these children can have a healthy start to their day,” stated NVFS President Stephanie Berkowitz in a release.
