Your trees are probably already set up for the holidays – but have you figured out what you’re going to do with them afterward?
The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) will be accepting evergreen Christmas trees for proper disposal and recycling at their center at 5399 Wellington Branch Road in Gainesville. They’ll be accepting the trees between December 26 and January 8.
“Trees must be free of all decorations, metal ornament hooks, and light strings before NOVEC’s tree crews recycle them into woodchips and mulch,” stated a release.
On the site there will be an area marked off by orange safety cones, where residents can leave their trees in the front parking lot.
“Most people agree that it’s more fun to put up and decorate a Christmas tree than take one down. But before a tree turns brown, take it down. You don’t want it to become a fire hazard,” stated NOVEC Vegetation Management Manager Rick Carpenter in a release.
