Students and faculty at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) have selected a name for their new nighthawk mascot.
According to a release, the mascot will be named Ace.
“I’m excited to announce that our NOVA Nighthawk will be known as Ace. Ace evokes many positive meanings, such as a person who excels or the highest score on an exam, and we believe the name fits our mascot perfectly,” stated NOVA President Scott Ralls in a release.
Throughout the community college system, individuals were asked to rate name choices – including Midnight, Maverick, Lightning, and Major – and could also write in additional names.
After tallying up the votes of 4,400 people, Ace was the clear winner, according to a release.
Now that a name has been selected for the mascot, a mascot suit will be created for use at NOVA sporting events, stated a release.
